Simple Solution To Strange Case
Oct 02, 2003 - 03:10:46 PM
Police and the fire department's dangerous goods team responded when a city woman reported receiving a letter that changed colour in front of her eyes.

Investigators say the case is a strange one with a simple explanation.

Late yesterday, Canada Post delivered a letter from the Remand Center to an address near 119th Street and 129th Avenue.

The woman who lives there wasn't named on the envelope but she opened the letter.

She was shocked when moments later the paper changed from white to pale yellow then brown.

Fearing poison or worse she dialed 911.

Firefighters, including the Bio Hazard team in protective gear, responded with police who cordoned off neighbouring houses.

Turns out the woman had put the letter down on top of an unnoticed wet coffee spill and the liquid stain made the letter look like it was changing colour.

Am I on fire or is it just German TV?
Thu Oct 2, 1:13 PM ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German TV network's regular early morning film of a burning log is playing havoc with night owls and even tricked a woman into calling out the fire brigade.

A spokesman for police in the northern town of Luebeck said on Thursday that the woman woke up thinking her television was on fire, called emergency services and alerted her neighbours.

"Fire services rushed in and extinguished the 'blaze' using the television remote control," the spokesman said.

Sabine Kreft of the Super RTL network said the "burning log" video which runs from three until six in the morning is popular, promotes congeniality, but is distinguishable from a real fire.

"Once I heard an old lady poured water on her TV. But most people should really be able to tell the difference."

Owner forced to pay for mutt's afair

A mutt named Schico just couldn't control himself, and wound up impregnating a lady dog in the neighborhood. Now Schico's owner has been ordered to pay for a doggie abortion.

The dogs' romantic escapade infuriated the owner of Schico's conquest. He claims Schico actually snuck into his house in Floroe, western Norway, and lured the dog outside.

"I heard a door open and suddenly he (Schico) stood there in our hall," the man, who didn't want his name used, told newspaper VG. "He had managed to open the door and lured our dog out."

Once outside, he claimed, it didn't take long before the two dogs were romantically attached. "I tore them apart," he said, but apparently not quickly enough.

Once he discovered that his own dog was "with puppies," which he didn't want, he took her to the vet for an abortion. Then he sued Schico's owner, seeking compensation for his expenses, and won.

Bot stunt girl broke leg

A 13-STONE performance artist broke her leg when a nightclub table collapsed beneath her as she snuffed out birthday cake candles with her BUM.

Kristen McDermott, 37 — stage name Tutu — spent ten days in hospital after the stunt backfired at London’s trendy Heaven venue, a court heard.

She demanded £20,000 compensation from Heaven Ltd, then owned by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin, for not checking the table would support her.

A judge at Central London County Court yesterday ruled the club was 30 per cent responsible. Compensation will be decided at another hearing.
